Rest That Restores: More Than Just Sleep (Vlog)

What comes to mind when you hear the word rest?

Do you think, “I’ll do that later,” or have you learned, sometimes the hard way, that it’s essential? For many of us, rest isn’t just a pause—it’s a rhythm of life. Without it, life, like music, loses its melody.

Real, restorative rest is more than closing our eyes at night

I’ve learned this through my own journey—through burnout triggered by long COVID syndrome and the seasons of life that pushed me to my limits. Sleep alone wasn’t enough. Real, restorative rest is more than closing your eyes at night. It’s intentional, productive, and deeply nourishing. It can take many forms: a quiet walk in the park, a heartfelt conversation with a friend, reading a book, journaling, or simply sitting in God’s presence.

God Rest Is The Best Rest

One of the most profound lessons I’ve learned is that rest with God is different from any other kind of rest. It heals, replenishes, and endures. It’s like a nourishing meal: fulfilling and sustaining. When we spend time with God—praying, worshiping, reflecting, or simply abiding in His presence—we are reminded of who we truly are: loved, chosen, and deeply cherished. This kind of rest refreshes our souls in a way that temporary distractions, busy schedules, or even sleep alone cannot.

Rest is not a one-time act

Just as we nurture our bodies every day, we must nurture our souls daily. Living from our true identity in God—knowing we are His children, chosen and beloved—changes everything. When we embrace this identity, we show up differently in the world. Confidence, purpose, and peace flow naturally. We no longer operate from fear, inadequacy, or societal pressures; we operate from truth, love, and wholeness.

Rest is not a pause from life—it is part of life’s rhythm

I know how hard this can be in practice. If you are someone who thrives on productivity, purpose, and progress, pausing can feel counterintuitive—even uncomfortable. Yet, rest is not a pause from life—it is part of life’s rhythm. It restores perspective, renews energy, and equips us to engage fully with the world and with others. Rest is sacred. It is a form of self-care, of spiritual nourishment, and of honoring the life God has given us.

So today, let’s keep on reminding ourselves that rest is not optional. Protecting, prioritizing and intentionally seeking it. Whether it’s a walk in nature, a quiet cup of tea, a conversation with a loved one, or indeed time spent in God’s presence. Let it heal you, restore you, and remind you of the deep, unwavering truth of who you are.

Rest is a rhythm. Rest is a practice. Rest is life-giving. And when we embrace it fully, we don’t just survive—we thrive.

Wishing you a restful rest of your day!
